The Most Common Gym Injuries I See In Clinic

Whether you’re new to the gym or have been training for years, injuries can happen to anyone.
At Revamp Massage Bodywork, I regularly see people who have picked up aches and pains through training, often without a specific injury. In many cases, the problem has gradually developed over weeks or months.
The good news is that many of these issues can be managed by identifying the cause early and making small adjustments before they become bigger problems.
1. Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain is one of the most common problems I see.
It often develops from repeated pressing exercises, poor lifting technique or doing more than the shoulder is currently able to tolerate.
Common symptoms include:
Pain during pressing movements.
Difficulty lifting your arm overhead.
Tightness around the front or back of the shoulder.
Reduced range of movement.
2. Lower Back Pain
Heavy lifting, poor movement patterns or simply increasing training too quickly can leave the lower back feeling stiff or painful.
Sometimes the back isn’t the real problem. Tight hips, reduced mobility or muscular imbalances elsewhere can all contribute.
3. Tight Hamstrings
Many people assume tight hamstrings simply need stretching.
In reality, hamstring tightness can be influenced by your training load, movement patterns, hip mobility and how your body responds to exercise.
4. Knee Pain
Squats, lunges and running can sometimes lead to discomfort around the knee.
Rather than avoiding movement altogether, it’s often helpful to understand what’s contributing to the symptoms and adapt your training accordingly.
5. Neck & Upper Back Tension
Long hours at a desk combined with regular gym sessions can leave the neck and upper back feeling constantly tight.
Stress, posture and training volume can all play a part.
Prevention Is Better Than Time Off
One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting until the pain becomes severe before doing something about it.
Small aches and niggles are often your body’s way of telling you something needs attention.
Addressing them early can help you continue training with greater confidence.
